Match Preview | Anstey Nomads (H)

Paul Holleran’s first match as manager sees the Yeltz host Anstey Nomads with both sides locked on the same points

Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the two sides for 48 years, and first at The Grove for almost half a century. The home game saw us win 3-1 in the FA Vase back in 1977.

The last meeting in December 1978, also came in the Vase, but in Leicestershire. The game ended in a 7-0 defeat for Alan Webb’s Yeltz. A match where legendary manager Paddy Page featured in the starting lineup. Anyone old enough to have attended this match?

Paul Holleran’s Thoughts

“It’s been a really good seven days. The Saturday’s away from home were both performances in unusual conditions which we managed well. The wind and rain at Evesham and early kick-off at Stamford. Then you add in the game here at Leamington, where we were forced to show a different character. It was poor game management to go two down, but the goal back before half-time, and equaliser early in the second half proved we had the resilience to get the winner, which we did. We need to use those three performances as a platform to push on further, and keep improving on the little bits to elevate that.

“Having to manage the squad through the nine games in October was difficult. Now, we are starting to get back the full squad, and we need it for another busy month in November. Callum Ebanks is back in training, and made his first appearance since August last weekend. Lewis Ison has had a scan and injections due to his injury, but is also back in training too.

“Tomorrow, we play Anstey, and we welcome everyone connected with the club to The Grove. They are a side who have enjoyed some fabulous years, no more so than last season’s promotion. They’ve started life well at step 3, and their results recently certainly don’t reflect the performance they have shown. They’ve had some very good results this season, drawing at Alvechurch & Needham, and beating Rushall & Bromsgrove amongst others.

“We look forward to seeing all the fans tomorrow afternoon for what promises to be another huge crowd. The atmosphere for a Tuesday night against Leamington was amazing. We need to give you something to cheer for, and want to do that by continuing with the winning run, and enjoying the ride of the next few weeks and months.”
