A message from the Chairman & Committee

Halesowen Town FC has a proud history, shaped by people who care deeply about the club. That same commitment keeps the club running today. We are ambitious and want to progress up the football pyramid, while protecting the character and community spirit that make the club a special place for so many.

As the club grows, the demands on the people running it grow too. We need to share that workload more effectively and give staff and volunteers the support they need. For supporters, that means a club better equipped to pursue its ambitions, with a clearer way to have a say in its future.

Over recent months, we have worked with Building Capability Group (BCGL) to review how responsibilities are shared, how decisions are made, and what support people need in their roles.

The review included engagement sessions, discussions about the club’s structure and a look at our policies and procedures. It has produced an action plan for the changes ahead.

The review showed that some responsibilities need to be clearer and that too much has depended on a small number of people. We want staff and volunteers to know what is expected of them, have the support to play their part well, and be clear about how decisions are made.

The plan includes strengthening the Board through non-executive director appointments and setting out a clearer remit and delegated authority for the Executive Committee.

It also includes reviewing staff and volunteer roles and agreements, reviewing and refreshing relevant policies, and identifying any guidance or training people need in their roles.

We have now confirmed a number of appointments and are in the process of putting the new arrangements in place, with more detail on the new structure to follow shortly.

The Junior Section is now part of the wider club structure, with its own established committee managing junior football and a clear reporting line into the Executive Committee.

As the new arrangements develop, we want to continue strengthening the connection between the Junior Section and the wider club.

Supporters have a part to play in this too.

The Fan Engagement Group has held its first meeting to discuss a variety of topics, with practical actions being developed from that feedback. The new arrangements will give the group a regular route to raise ideas and concerns with the club and follow up on what happens next.

We also have our General Committee supporting the day-to-day operation of the club.

BCGL will continue to support the work and carry out a follow-up review in six months. We will share further updates as the new arrangements are put into practice.
