Match Preview | Leamington (A)

The Yeltz make the short trip to Leamington as we look to make it the Quarter-Final of the BSC for the first time for 7 years

Head to Head

There have been just the six meetings since the start of 2010’s between the two sides. The Yeltz have failed to win one of the contests and in fact have not beaten Leamington since 2009. The most recent meeting came in the Birmingham Senior Cup, but in the second round. The hosts had the large proportion of chances in the opening half hour and provoked the first blow when Tim Berridge put the Brakes ahead just seven minutes before the end of the first half, after he held the ball on the edge of the area and drilled a low strike into the bottom left past a helpless Lewis Solly. It took the Yeltz just a minute to change the scoreline and deal the second blow in this intriguing encounter. Jak Hickman beat Brakes academy player Tom Connell on the right before he fired in a low cross into the centre towards Yeltz teenager and debutant Ryan Fletcher who turned and fired past the unsighted former Leamington keeper Callum Hawkins into the net. The game went to penalties, and Leamington brought young keeper Jacob Humphries on for his debut 10 minutes before the shootout but he failed to stop Adi Yussuf, Nat Kelly, Todd Parker, Pa Nije and Luke Postle respectively who all got the perfect responses to the spot kicks from Tim Berridge, Josh Quaynor, Theo Streete, and former Leamington players Harry Lloyd & George Ward. Former Leamington man Ted Rowe stepped up at five a piece and sent Solly the wrong way, the sudden death pressure fell to our player-coach Martin Riley, who failed to convert by hitting the crossbar. There have been just the six meetings since the start of the 2010’s. The Yeltz have not won once, and in fact have failed to beat Leamington since 2009. The most recent meeting came in the Birmingham Senior Cup, but in the second round.
