Colin Brookes’ Funeral

Our President, Colin Brookes sadly fell asleep at Stratford Town FC whilst watching his beloved Halesown Town on Tuesday 25 November 2025. Born in Barnsley, South Yorkshire on the 2 January 1942, to Doris and Dennis Brookes, he was a professional footballer, police officer and following retirement a non-league football stalwart performing many roles at Halesowen Town FC. Football, Cricket and his family were his great passions. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, friend and mentor to many. Anyone who knew him would instantly recognise his fun loving, joking, pranks and keen sense of humour. But he was humble, kind, always immaculately turned out and a gentleman. He was predeceased by Jayne and is survived by his two daughters Karen and Rebbecca and grandchildren Ben, Danielle and Jake and great granddaughter Grace and step great grandchildren Olly and Bella.

The funeral service is at Gornal Crematorium, Chase Road, Gornal Wood, West Midlands DY3 2RL on Friday 2 January 2026 at 11.40am and we will be driving past Halesowen Town FC, Old Hawne Lane entrance at between approximately 10.45am and 11:00am on route to the service, should anyone wish to pay their respects, who can’t attend the funeral. Family flowers only and donations to be spilt between The British Heart Foundation and Alzheimers Society.

He taught us to always give everything in anything that we did, and to remember that HOW you do something was more important than WHAT you did.
